Carousels typically have a patriotic horse. Lightning is this horse on our carousel. He is also the Lead Horse. According to carousel tradition, the lead horse is always the biggest and most decorative horse. The eye-catching red, white, blue, and gold design on this beautiful white stallion lets him live up to his job. When it came time to choose a name, the family researched patriotic and family names. Nothing seemed quite right until the Tripp’s youngest granddaughter decreed that he would be called Lightning. Lightning carries a 13-star USA flag and a bust of George Washington on his saddle. A bald eagle is under the cantle of the saddle in the style of Dentzel eagle-back saddles. Eight small medallions on the harness showcase the favorite activities of the Tripp’s children and grandchildren.
