Zeus is a Grévy’s zebra, also known as the imperial zebra, found in Western Africa. He was adopted by Char Walters, whose favorite saying is, “If you hear hoofbeats, expect horses not zebras.” Unlike many other animals on the Carousel, Zeus was completely finished before Char saw him and fell in love. She named her new zebra “Zeus” because his proudly raised head makes him look regal. The De Brazza’s monkey hanging from a vine that Zeus holds in his mouth is named “Zorba” because of his fun-loving attitude. One of two zebras on the carousel, Zeus is a middle row animal, not quite a star-gazer, but looking up with his mouth slightly open. “That’s my zebra!”
