Bucky, the white-tailed deer, is an impressive 5-point buck. Bucky is modeled after an 11-inch tall carving created by Gary’s grandfather, Irving Phillip Miller, who was nicknamed Bucky. As an inside row animal, the deer is posed in a jumping position, reflecting speed and agility. A brown blanket with a basket-weave border adorns the saddle area. A gray and white miniature Schnauzer named Misty is tucked under the back corner of the blanket. A family pet, Misty, wears a US flag patterned scarf, representing the family’s patriotism, and a pink collar with a bone-shaped nametag. On the romance, or outside of the horse, a wooden medallion hangs in the middle of the blanket which contains the family names, Miller and Meyer, and the name of their son, Roe. The names surround a Pontiac Indian Head based on an original pattern carved by I.P. Miller for the Pontiac Foundry. There is also a roll of carving tools hanging from Bucky’s shoulder, reflecting the family’s love of woodworking, and containing a single Rose, representing their granddaughter. On the non-romance side is a farm bell like the ones used by both families to call them home.
